# About

## What this is

redpill.akuadora.net collects headlines from European newsrooms and puts them on one page, newest first. Russia’s war on Ukraine comes first. Every headline is a link to the article on the publisher’s own site; nothing is rewritten, summarised or ranked.

## Where the headlines come from

**The war:** the Kyiv Independent, Ukrainska Pravda, Ukrinform and The Guardian’s Ukraine page report on the war full time. Meduza is an independent Russian newsroom in exile that reports on Russia without the Kremlin’s censorship.

**Europe:** BBC News Europe, DW (Deutsche Welle), Euronews, Politico Europe and NOS (Dutch). Headlines from these sources that are about the war also appear in the war section.

**Independent Russian journalism:** The Insider and Novaya Gazeta Europe, both forced out of Russia, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

**Analysis:** Bellingcat’s open-source investigations about Russia and the war; OSW, the Centre for Eastern Studies in Warsaw; and War on the Rocks, on strategy and the military side of the war.

**Listen:** *The Rest Is Politics* and *The Rest Is Politics: US*, in which Rory Stewart, a former British minister, and Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair’s former spokesman, discuss the week’s politics; *Ukraine: The Latest* from The Telegraph; *Ukraine This Week* from the Kyiv Independent; *The Russia Guy* with Kevin Rothrock of Meduza; and the War on the Rocks podcast.

The front page shows only the newest few from each part, so it stays readable. Everything about the war is kept in the [archive](https://redpill.akuadora.net/archive). The live list of sources is at the [end of this page](#sources).

There are no Russian state media here. They are banned in the EU for a reason: they are part of the war effort.

## How we check facts

Everything we write ourselves (the [timeline](https://redpill.akuadora.net/timeline) and the [background stories](https://redpill.akuadora.net/background)) covers the war and its run-up since 2020, and every fact in it was checked against at least two independent sources: court rulings, investigators’ reports, UN and ICC documents, and reporting by different newsrooms. Open-source investigators such as **Bellingcat**, who prove what happened from photos, videos and satellite images, count as one of those sources wherever they investigated (MH17, Navalny, Skripal, Kramatorsk, Okhmatdyt). Where sources disagree, for example on a death toll, we say so and give the range. The sources are listed at the end of every page. Opinion pieces are labelled **Opinion**.

The headlines on the front page are the publishers’ own. We don’t change them, so they are as reliable as the newsroom that wrote them. That is why the list mixes Ukrainian, Russian independent, British, German, pan-European and Dutch newsrooms: read more than one.

## How it works

Every 15 minutes a small program reads the public news feeds (RSS) of these sources and updates the page. If a source is unreachable, its last headlines stay up until it is back. War headlines also go into the [archive](https://redpill.akuadora.net/archive), which keeps them for good.
